Broader Economic Social and Governance (ESG) values as well as the specific sustainable finance agenda are growing in importance and have been notable areas of focus for the Association for some time.
In April 2020, the European Commission (EC) launched a new consultation on the renewed sustainable finance strategy. Building on the 2018 Action Plan on financing sustainable growth, the renewed sustainable finance strategy will provide a roadmap with new actions to increase private investment in sustainable projects and activities to support the different actions set out in the European Green Deal, and to manage and integrate climate and environmental risks into our financial system. This work is expected to lead to the publication of a detailed strategy for sustainable finance including draft legislative proposals in late 2020.This initiative will also provide additional enabling frameworks for the European Green Deal Investment Plan that is now seen as integral to the recovery of Europe in a post COVID world.
ISLA would like to engage with its broader membership, including banks and service providers, through working groups where ESG issues are driving specific change.
